How LandAir Energy Turned Organic Search Into High-Value Commercial Energy Opportunities
A South Jersey SEO case study showing why the quality of search traffic can matter far more than the quantity.
When South Jersey Digital Marketing began working with LandAir Energy Solutions, the problem wasn’t the company’s experience or capabilities. LandAir has been operating since 1996 and works in a market where a single commercial energy project can represent hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential business. The problem was visibility.
The company simply wasn’t being found often enough by businesses searching online for the commercial solar and energy services it provides.
For a business like LandAir, that matters. This isn’t an e-commerce company that needs thousands of visitors to make the numbers work. Qualified opportunities can range from roughly $150,000 to $1 million in potential project value.
Our goal wasn’t simply to generate more traffic. It was to generate the right traffic.
The Starting Point
Before the campaign, LandAir had limited organic visibility for many of the searches most closely aligned with its business. Our initial search tracking showed important rankings sitting around page 9 of Google.
That meant a company could be actively researching commercial solar or energy solutions in New Jersey and never realistically encounter LandAir during its search.
The company already had decades of experience and the ability to handle substantial commercial projects. What it lacked was a digital presence that communicated those capabilities effectively enough to both prospective customers and search engines. That distinction became the foundation of the campaign.
SEO can’t turn a weak company into a strong one. What it can do is make a legitimate company considerably easier to discover and understand.
We Started With the Website
Rather than treating SEO as a list of keywords to insert into an existing site, we started by rebuilding LandAir’s digital foundation. That included a new website, improved site architecture, on-page SEO, Google optimization, stronger service positioning, internal linking, and content structured around the searches most relevant to LandAir’s commercial customers.
The website needed to make several things immediately clear:
- What does LandAir do?
- Who does it serve?
- Where does it operate?
- What types of projects can it handle?
- Why should a company trust LandAir with a substantial commercial energy investment?
Those sound like basic questions, but they’re also exactly the type of information search engines need to understand a business.
Most importantly, we didn’t build the strategy around generating traffic for traffic’s sake. We concentrated on commercial search intent.
From Page 9 to Page 2
Within roughly 60–90 days, we saw a substantial change in LandAir’s organic visibility. Important rankings that had been around page 9 moved into page 2, with stronger visibility appearing across the target market.
That’s a significant improvement, but rankings weren’t the ultimate measurement of whether the campaign was working. The real measurement was whether the increased visibility produced business opportunities.
It did.
Organic Search Began Producing Qualified Opportunities Every Week
LandAir began receiving approximately 2–3 qualified organic opportunities per week through its online presence. These aren’t small residential service calls — depending on scope, a qualified LandAir opportunity can represent approximately $150,000 to $1 million in potential project value.
That completely changes the economics of SEO.
A high-ticket B2B company doesn’t necessarily need tens of thousands of website visitors. It needs to be visible when the relatively small number of people responsible for major purchasing decisions are actively looking for what it provides.
One qualified visitor can be considerably more valuable than thousands of irrelevant ones. That’s exactly what we wanted LandAir’s search strategy to accomplish.
Then a $2.5 Million Inquiry Came Through the Website
One recent inbound inquiry illustrates the difference between generating traffic and generating the right traffic.
The prospect identified the source as:
“Online Search/Website.”
They requested a quote for a Solar & Commercial Energy Systems project in New Jersey. The stated project budget was:
$2,500,000
The inquiry described a substantial scope involving commercial solar power systems, photovoltaic panels, solar inverters, battery energy storage, electrical distribution equipment, energy management systems, mounting and racking, monitoring and control systems, installation, integration, commissioning, testing, maintenance, and quality assurance.
It’s important to distinguish an inquiry from revenue. A $2.5 million stated project budget does not mean LandAir booked $2.5 million in revenue, and we don’t present it that way.
What it does demonstrate is that LandAir’s online presence is being discovered by prospects researching the type and scale of commercial energy projects the company wants to pursue.
For us, that’s a far more meaningful SEO result than simply reporting an increase in website sessions.
The Bigger Lesson: Traffic Isn’t the Goal
Traffic is one of the easiest SEO metrics to report. It’s also one of the easiest to misunderstand.
LandAir could theoretically double its traffic by ranking for residential solar questions, DIY searches, solar jobs, or dozens of other topics. The analytics graph might look impressive. The business results probably wouldn’t.
Instead, the strategy focused on connecting LandAir with commercial search intent closely aligned with its services and economics.
During the initial growth period, the campaign generated an $800,000+ potential opportunity pipeline, while organic opportunities continued arriving. The subsequent $2.5 million inbound inquiry reinforced the larger lesson: when the value of a customer is high, search intent can matter much more than raw traffic volume.
What Other Businesses Can Learn From LandAir
LandAir operates in an unusually high-value industry, but the underlying principle applies to businesses throughout South Jersey.
A landscaper doesn’t necessarily need more people searching broadly for landscaping. It may need homeowners looking specifically for hardscaping, recurring property maintenance, or another profitable service.
An HVAC contractor may not need more AC repair traffic. It may want homeowners researching complete system replacements.
A commercial energy company doesn’t need everyone interested in solar. It needs decision-makers responsible for commercial properties who are actively considering substantial energy projects.
That’s why effective SEO should begin with the business rather than the keyword tool. Understand which customers the company actually wants, which services matter most, where those customers are located, and how they search for solutions. Then build the website and search strategy around that.
For LandAir, the result wasn’t simply greater visibility. It was greater visibility among the people who mattered to the business.
The rankings improved. More importantly, qualified opportunities followed.
