Every autumn, the pulse of Cumberland County quickens as the aroma of wood smoke, sizzling garlic, grilled meats, and powdered sugar drifts across downtown Vineland. What began as an ambitious downtown revitalization initiative has blossomed into one of South Jersey’s signature culinary and cultural gatherings: the annual Food Truck Festival on Landis Avenue.
Known affectionately to locals as “The Ave,” Vineland’s historic main thoroughfare transforms into a pedestrian haven filled with dozens of gourmet food trucks, artisan crafters, beer and wine gardens, and non-stop live musical entertainment.
A Heritage Rooted in Land and Community
To understand the energy of the Vineland Food Truck Festival, one must first look at the unique history of the town itself. Founded in 1861 by visionary developer Charles K. Landis, Vineland was conceived as a planned agricultural and industrial community nestled within the fertile soil of South Jersey. Landis laid out an extraordinarily wide, tree-lined main boulevard, specifically designed to serve as the beating heart of local commerce, social life, and civic pride.
Over the decades, Vineland established itself as an agricultural powerhouse, producing produce, poultry, and specialty crops that fed major metropolitan centers along the East Coast. Immigrant communities, particularly Italian and later Puerto Rican and broader Latino populations, settled throughout the region, contributing their agricultural expertise, craftsmanship, and culinary traditions.
The Birth of “Food Trucks on The Ave”
While food trucks had long been a common fixture at South Jersey county fairs, carnivals, and firehouse parades, the modern food truck revolution took hold across the nation in the 2010s. Mobile kitchens evolved from simple snack stations into sophisticated rolling culinary labs operated by classically trained chefs and passionate entrepreneurs.
Seeing this momentum, leadership at Main Street Vineland and the Vineland Downtown Improvement District (VDID) recognized an opportunity to breathe fresh life into the downtown corridor. In 2017, the team set to work designing a premier destination event centered right in the city’s downtown mini-parks and along Landis Avenue.
The original goal was to give these public green spaces back to the community for their intended purpose: bringing neighbors together. Event consultants initially advised the planning team that a first-year food truck festival might draw around 3,500 people, with an optimistic upper estimate of 5,000.
When the gates opened for the inaugural festival, however, those projections were shattered. Nearly 10,000 visitors packed Landis Avenue throughout the day, catching participating food trucks by surprise and selling out dozens of mobile menus hours before closing time.
That instant triumph put Vineland firmly on the regional culinary map. Despite the pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival returned stronger, consistently packing downtown with tens of thousands of foodies, families, and visitors from across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

The upcoming festival brings together more than 30 curated mobile kitchens lining Landis Avenue between East Avenue and 8th Street, serving up a diverse cross-section of regional and global street food:
- Authentic Latin & Caribbean Specialties: Savor traditional street tacos, birria, empanadas, pernil, tostones, and mofongo that honor the deep Hispanic heritage of South Jersey and Vineland’s cultural core.
- Wood-Fired & Italian Comfort Classics: Hand-tossed artisan pizzas, arancini, gourmet sausage and peppers, and homemade pasta creations celebrating the area’s rich Italian-American roots.
- Smoked Barbecue & Coastal Fare: Slow-smoked brisket, pulled pork, fall-off-the-bone ribs, seafood boils, lobster rolls, and Maryland-style crab cakes.
- Gourmet Fusion & Modern Street Eats: From smash burgers and loaded artisan mac-and-cheese bowls to gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and fusion bao buns.
- Sweet Delights & Refreshments: Traditional funnel cakes, churros, deep-fried pastries, gourmet milkshakes, artisanal ice cream, and refreshing fresh-squeezed lemonade.
Beyond the food trucks, dozens of local artisans, craft vendors, and regional merchants line the sidewalks, offering handmade jewelry, custom woodworking, home décor, and specialty packaged gourmet goods.
Live Entertainment and Guest Performers
A defining characteristic of the Vineland Food Truck Festival is its entertainment lineup. Organizers ensure that the entire eight-hour block remains lively with curated performances spanning rock, funk, Latin rhythms, country, and dance hits.
Among this year’s headline musical attractions is Kid Charlemagne, the premier Steely Dan tribute band known for their faithful, high-energy renditions of classic jazz-rock masterpieces. Direct from the Philadelphia club circuit, DJ Ben Arsenal takes over the soundstage to deliver an eclectic mix of international beats, house, and dance classics that keep the street moving.
Throughout the day, local performers, community dance groups, and regional musicians will showcase their talents across designated festival stages. For adults looking to unwind, outdoor beer and wine gardens offer local craft brews, regional wines, and seasonal ciders, providing an ideal vantage point to enjoy the live performances.
A Cumberland County Community Celebration
While the culinary roster is the headliner, the festival is designed from the ground up as a family-friendly community day. The dedicated Kid’s Corner features bounce attractions, face painting, interactive carnival games, and hands-on activities that keep young attendees engaged throughout the afternoon.
The event’s continued success relies heavily on the coordination of the City of Vineland, alongside the Vineland Police Department, Fire Department, Municipal Utilities, and a dedicated team of community volunteers.
